π¨ Red Alert and Widespread Destruction
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for several districts including Mandi, Kangra, and Sirmaur, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and potential landslides. Over 260 roads, including 176 in Mandi alone, have been rendered impassable due to landslides and flooding.
This is time to be alert for all the citizens and tourist whoever planning for trip in this monsoon.
Entire villages have been cut off, with visuals showing homes swept away, bridges collapsed, and vehicles submerged in gushing waters. Emergency teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and ITBP are racing against time to rescue those trapped in remote areas and affected flood area.
Infrastructure Crippled
- Power Outages: Over 300 transformers are non-functional
- Water Crisis: Nearly 281 water supply schemes disrupted
- Livelihood Loss: Hundreds of livestock perished, and crops destroyed
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the actual losses may exceed βΉ700 crore as assessments continue. Relief camps have been set up, and financial aid is being distributed to affected families.

Experts warn that the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events is a direct consequence of climate change. Himachalβs fragile ecology, combined with unregulated construction, has made the region more vulnerable to natural disasters.
